Who for
Presidents, film stars and heavy metal bands – a plaque in reception lists the many famous people who have stayed here over the years. For us ordinary mortals though, this is a grand hotel that offers easy access to the charming Old Town but stands slightly aloof and detached, a cosseting retreat to head back to after a day spent wandering the cobbled lanes, or evenings spent enjoying the numerous restaurants and bars.
Accommodation
We stayed in a Collection Room – Old Town View, which does what it says with two pretty Juliette balconies to marvel at the morning light over the historic square.
All rooms are modern but have antique Lithuanian touches such as wall tapestries. Each of the 119 rooms and suites has complimentary Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, a minifridge, and Nespresso coffee machines. Our bathroom was extra special with a state-of-the-art Grohe monsoon shower.
Food & Drink
As befits a grand epoch hotel, the Astorija Brasserie serves modern French cuisine. has a glass-walled brasserie serving French food and looking out over the square and pretty St. Casimir’s Church. There is also the Astorija Gin Bar, which harks back to the days of The Grand Tour in its classic style, plus a rooftop lounge with set menu boxes . Breakfast is a lavish buffet, with a cooked menu option as well as a ‘grab and go’ back up if you’re running late for your plane
