Sommerro is designed to appeal to both locals and visitors across its stunning sweep of public spaces filled with artworks. Discerning travellers will be captivated by Art Deco touches such as the lovingly restored Vestkantbadet, one of the few public baths left in the country featuring a giant mosaic mural from Norwegian artist Per Krohg. Expect to see local professionals working at their laptops or enjoying a cocktail in the opulent bars, as well as international travellers, including couples and business travellers. The larger suites can accommodate families and groups.

There are 246 rooms ranging from cosy lofts to sumptuous suites, each with 1930s-inspired decor combined with classic Norwegian style. There are also 56 branded residences, I loved the parquet floor, decadent chandelier and pretty marquetry mini-bar
There is an elegant chaise longue and miniature glass table for my coffee cup. There are heavenly toiletries, and the bathroom is beautifully simple with mood, marble and chrome decor.

Sommerro has five restaurants and three bars. TAK Oslo is a Nordic Japanese rooftop restaurant by award-winning chef Frida Ronge. Izakaya is an informal street food and cocktail bar in an elegant interior designed by New York and London-based GecoDeco. All-day dining is at Ekspedesjonshallen serving classic brasserie-style food with a backdrop of a stunning mural by Per Krohg and nightly music.
To Sostre cafe (meaning two sisters) has a garden-like atmosphere offering sandwiches, sweets, and some of the city’s best cakes.
Plah & Ahaan is a Thai restaurant on the ground floor, and Barramon is a pintxos and wine bar serving delicious tapas that focus on the Basque country.
Facilities
Sommerro Hotel has a sprawling wellness space with a 400square metre gym, eight treatment rooms and Vestkantbadet that brings back the city’s public baths, cold pool, sauna and wellness shop.
There is a rooftop terrace with a heated pool (the first rooftop pool in Norway) and a sauna with great views over Oslo.
They also have several meeting and event rooms, and a 100-seat theatre for intimate events, including cabaret and magic shows.
