Once the prime Soviet hotel in Bishkek, the imposing building is spacious, with high ceilings, and has been extensively refurbished to bring it bang up to date.
A big attraction is the outdoor swimming pool and there’s an extensive terrace area for outside dining. All around is green parkland and the snow-capped Tien-Shan Mountain range provides an attractive backdrop. It’s calm here, with no traffic noise, and a good place to relax after a tiring day at the bazaars.
Who for
If you’re a tourist and craving luxury in this big city, then the hotel is the place for you. For business travellers, there are 33 units of office space as well as a dedicated business centre.
Accommodation
The 178 rooms range from standard, deluxe Regency Club and spacious suites. I stayed in a King bed with club access deluxe which was a generous 48 square metres with sitting and work areas. The king bed was covered in Italian linens and there was a goose feather duvet. Décor was modern, furnished with rich oak and soft bright textures and there was abundant natural light. From the windows, there were views of the State Opera and the Alatoo mountains.
The bathroom has both a large bath and a walk-in shower and fluffy robes and slippers are provided as well as cosmetics. Of course, there’s a hairdryer, 25 inch TV with cable and satellite, USB ports and Nespresso machine as well as a kettle.
The room was on the dedicated Regency Club floor which offers free drinks and snacks in the executive lounge. Unfortunately, because of the Covid, this was closed but copious Italian dishes and drinks were offered in the restaurant instead. There’s also efficient 24-hour room service.
Food and Drink
The Opera Lounge, on the ground floor next to the lobby, has floor to ceiling windows with views of the State Opera and serves light meals and refreshments. Adjoining is the Mediterranean restaurant, Crostini, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It features an open show kitchen and a traditional wood-burning oven. Meals can be also taken outside on the terrace.
In summer, around the pool, Breeze serves a variety of barbecued dishes.
Bar@191 is not just for drinks but has a Silk Road theme, taking you on a journey through Italy, Turkey, Iran, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and China. It can cater for business meetings and corporate parties as well as individual guests.
Facilities
The Fitness Centre provides technologically advanced fitness equipment, including treadmills, stepmaster, and bicycles. It’s stocked with free weights, stability balls, and other accessories.
The outdoor swimming pool is open during warm summer months from late May until mid-September. You can also eat and drink here.
As well as a Business Centre, there are around 1,250 square metres of office space, divided into 33 separate units. Each office can be adapted to meet the specific requirements of the occupant. All offices benefit from temperature control and comprehensive security.

Dordoi Bazaar, the largest bazaar in Central Asia, is a short taxi ride. Manas International Airport is a 35-minute drive.
Verdict:
The Hyatt Regency Bishkek is definitely the best place to stay in the city, both for comfort and services and also because of its central location. Service is friendly and efficient and the outdoor pool is a definite plus.
