Hotel quarantine for travellers entering the UK from red list countries has become more expensive.

The compulsory 10-day quarantine in a designated hotel costs £1,750 and includes full board and the costs of the required Covid tests. From 12th August this is set to rise to £2,285 for a single adult, and up from £650 to £1,430 for a second adult in a shared room.

The Department for Transport said the increased cost is not a deterrent, it reflects the actual costs of providing secure quarantine facilities. The cost includes transport to the hotel, round the clock security, and any welfare services required.

Travellers from red list countries must book their quarantine stay in advance.
